Diabetes affects just over two per cent of the population of the UK. Although it cannot be cured or prevented, it can be controlled by proper treatment.

The British Diabetic Association (BDA) was formed i 1934 to provide advice and help for diabetics, to overcome prejudice and ignorance about diabetes, and to raise money for research towards a cure. The Association is currently raising and spending about £1m each year to this end, and is the largest single contributor to diabetic research in the UK.

All diabetics have to follow a lifelong diet and BALANCE publishes recipes and dietary information to help bring interest and variety in eating.
